what kind of artwork do you accept?
At Black Cat, we're open to all forms of art! We try to keep an interesting mix of different art forms and styles in the store to provide our customers with an amazing and curated spread of products. Our beautifully curated mix of artists also provides each artist with the best opportunity to be noticed and admired by our customers.
While we consider all artists when curating our store, we prioritize showcasing women, minority, and LGBTQIA+ artists. We are a company that takes pride in providing opportunity to those that most need it while promoting inclusivity and understanding. We will not carry products that promote any form of hate speech or works that contain any xenophobic, racist, homophobic, or misogynistic ideals.
What counts as "Hate Speech?" The definition of hate speech is: "Speech that is intended to insult, offend, or intimidate a person because of some trait (such as race, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, or disability)."
We DO consider phrases such as "All Lives Matter", "Blue Lives Matter", "Back the Blue", and other similar phrases to be hate speech. Why? Those phrases are often prompted to make it seem like Black Lives Matter is an exclusive or combative statement, thereby distracting from the simple aspirational statement that Black Lives do, indeed, Matter. We do not subscribe to that kind of simplistic thinking. Please feel free to acquaint yourself with what the Black Lives Matter movement is truly trying to achieve.
Do you offer consignment or wholesale?
We offer both consignment & wholesale options as a means for the artist to choose which option works best for them and their business.
what is wholesale?
Wholesale means that we at Black Cat would buy a bulk amount of product from you at a lower price, usually 50% off MSRP. If you're an artist, that means you get paid without waiting to see if your items sell well or not. Additional benefits are that the artist doesn't need to stop by to restock when items run low and the artist is not responsible for paying tax on the items sold. Black Cat assumes that tax liability.
what are your consignment rates?
If you're considering consignment, we set initial consignment terms at 75/25. Meaning 75% of the sale price will be given to the maker and 25% is kept by Black Cat. Taxes will be collected by Black Cat and remitted on your behalf.
Artists who choose consignment will have their artwork carried in the store for a 3 month evaluation period. After that period, we will look at how our customers interacted with your work and whether we'll continue to carry it at Black Cat.
Checks to artists are mailed out every quarter, unless the artist asks us to hold their check for pickup when restocking.

We highly suggest coming to Black Cat and checking out the store for yourself before reaching out about wholesale or consignment.
